Namaqua Flowers Beach Camp

A temporary Flower Beach Camp which would be an annual event and would serve as an ideal place for a romantic outing. The camp will only be accessible by 4x4 vehicles because of the remoteness of the camp.

However, guests who do not have 4x4s will be transferred to camp using appropriate vehicles.

Where else in the world would you have the ocean behind you and a sea of indigenous wild flowers blooming and blossoming way beyond the horizon? This flower phenomena is unique to the west coast of South Africa and it attracts visitors from all over the world.

SANParks working together Chiefs Mobile Safari Camp are setting up a temporary tented camp at Namaqua National Park to operate during the flower season.
The temporary camp will operate from 1 August to 30 September 2011, but bookings are open from 14 March 2011.
The camp will be operated by Chiefs Mobile Safari Camp on a full board basis (all meals) including activities.
Meals will be served in a communal dining tent.

Accommodation Guests also have the option of a set itinerary for a 2 nights & 3 nights/weekend.
Dome tent, with canvas patio cover providing shade for two director’s chairs.
Two single beds.
One pedestal.
Battery powered energy saving LED light.
Bath towels.
Personal amenities including soap and conditioning shampoo.
Private but adjacent shower and chemical flush toilet.
Warm water provided at pre-arranged shower times.

Two Nights Itinerary

Day 1
Guests arrive on Self-Drive at SANParks Groen River office – Namaqua National Park.
Only guest on 4x4 vehicles will drive themselves to Flowers Beach Camp.
Guests without 4x4 vehicles will be transferred to camp using appropriate vehicles.

Afternoon Guests are welcome explore the surrounds either on foot or if they have 4x4 vehicle, their sojourn could take them further, taking in the sights and sounds of this spectacular coastal setting.
Or alternatively relax in the camp whilst gazing into the setting sun.

Before Brunch Guests are welcome to a take solitary stroll along the coast line looking for seals, birds and other wildlife.
Brunch 10:00
Midday Guided Flower Walk, here we invite guests to join our local expert as we interpret some of the sights which constitute this unique floral kingdom.

Please Note:
◦As this is a special camp set up for the flower season, stricter modification and cancellation rules apply to bookings made at Central Reservations and normal SANParks online bookings rules apply to online reservations. ◦When booking your stay at Namaqua Flowers Beach Camp online, you need only book the day of your arrival for both the accommodation and the transfer if required. Although the online booking system will display your reservation as a single night booking only, you will receive a confirmation letter shortly after making payment which will correctly display the two or three night’s stay that you have booked.

The Namaqua National Park is situated near Kamieskroon (22km from the Park offices) in the Northern Cape Province.

GPS Co-ordinates to Groen River - S 30 49 43.9 - E 17 34 33.0

From Cape Town:

  • Take the N7 north to Garies (430km)
  • At Garies, turn left to Groen River. Follow the gravel road to Groen river (73km)
  • At Groen River you will enter the park at the sign ‘Namaqua National Park- Coastal Section’ to your right. To enter, open and close the gate again.
  • The office is approx 500m from the gate. From the office it is 20km along the coast to the Namaqua Flowers Beach Camp (strictly 4x4 only!)

From Upington:

  • Take the N14 to Springbok (400km)
  • Take the N7 south to Garies (120km)
  • At Garies, turn right to Groen River. Follow the gravel road to Groen river (73km)
  • At Groen River you will enter the park at the sign ‘Namaqua National Park- Coastal Section’ to your right. To enter, open and close the gate again.
  • The office is approx 500m from the gate. From the office it is 20km along the coast to the Namaqua Flowers Beach Camp (strictly 4x4 only!)

From Skilpad:

  • Skilpad is the parks’ main office and lies 20km from the town of Kamieskroon (which lies on the N7)
  • From Skilpad there is a 4x4 track going down to the coast. It is essential to obtain the Caracal Ecotrail Booklet at the office for directions. This route can take 4-6 hours down to the Beach Camp.
